A design tool versus a business toolkit

Framer started as a design tool and became a website builder. It is loved by designers, startups and agencies because sites built in it look modern, move smoothly and can be changed quickly. If you can use Figma, you can use Framer.

Wix is an all-in-one platform for running a business online. You build the site with drag and drop or let the AI builder draft it, then add bookings, an online store, events or email campaigns from the same dashboard.

Design and editing

Framer’s strength is the result. Layouts feel current, animation and scroll effects are built in, and the pages are light and fast. Designers work on a canvas much like Figma, and editors can change text and images directly on the page.

Wix offers a huge range of templates and lets you place elements anywhere. It is approachable for beginners, though layouts often need adjusting for mobile, and sites can look more template-like unless a designer is involved.

Business tools and selling

Wix is ahead here. Bookings, events, restaurant ordering, email marketing and an online store are built in or one click away, and the Core plan includes e-commerce. For a salon, studio, coach or small shop, that is a lot of value in one subscription.

Framer focuses on the website. It has no built-in store, so selling means linking to a checkout such as Shopify or Stripe, and bookings or email need separate tools.

Content, SEO and speed

Both platforms include a CMS for blogs, case studies and listings, and both cover the SEO basics: titles, meta descriptions, sitemaps and redirects (on Framer’s paid plans). Framer pages tend to be lighter, which helps speed, but content and structure decide rankings far more than the builder.

Languages

Both handle multiple languages. Framer charges $20 per language per month on paid plans and includes AI translation. Wix offers its free Multilingual app with automatic translation credits. For a site in two or three languages, both are reasonable.

Pricing in practice

For a small site, Framer is cheaper: Basic is $10 a month against Wix Light at $17, billed yearly. With a CMS and more pages, Framer Pro at $30 and Wix Core at $29 are level, but Wix Core includes an online store. Both offer free plans for trying things out.

Remember to count the build. A Wix site can be a DIY project; a Framer site is usually designed by a professional. Our website redesign cost guide explains typical budgets.

Moving from Wix to Framer

Wix does not export code, so moving to Framer means rebuilding the design, usually an upgrade in itself. Blog content can be exported and imported into the Framer CMS, and old URLs are redirected with 301s so you keep your rankings.

Our website migration service takes care of the whole move, and the SEO website migration checklist lists what to check.

Our take

If your website is a showcase, the place where people decide whether you look credible, Framer gives you a sharper, faster, more modern site. If your website is where your business runs, with bookings, orders and newsletters, Wix keeps it all in one place.

FAQ

Framer vs Wix
questions

Anything else? Email us at rajan@thevectorbox.com.

Is Framer better than Wix?

For design-led marketing sites, yes: Framer produces more modern, animated sites with lighter pages. For small businesses that need bookings, a store or email marketing in one place, Wix is more practical. The deciding question is whether you need a showcase or an all-in-one business tool.

Is Framer easier than Wix?

Wix is easier for most people, thanks to its guided setup and AI site builder. Framer is easy for anyone used to design tools like Figma, but its blank canvas can feel daunting to beginners.

Can Framer replace Wix for a small business?

Yes, if your site is mainly about presenting your business. If you rely on Wix Bookings, Wix Stores or Wix email campaigns, you would need separate tools alongside Framer, so check that the extra subscriptions are worth it.

Which is better for SEO, Framer or Wix?

Both handle the SEO basics: titles, meta descriptions, sitemaps and redirects. Framer pages are usually lighter and faster, which helps. In practice, content quality and site structure matter much more than the choice between them.

How do I move a site from Wix to Framer?

Wix has no code export, so the design is rebuilt in Framer. Blog posts can be exported and imported into the Framer CMS, and every old URL is redirected to its new address so you keep your search rankings.
