Two good builders, aimed at different people

Squarespace is the builder for people who want a beautiful website without becoming web designers. Its templates are some of the best-looking available, editing is simple, and selling, scheduling and email marketing live in the same dashboard.

Webflow is the builder for custom websites. It gives designers full control over every page and a CMS that can carry a serious content operation. It takes longer to learn, so it is usually used by designers and agencies who then hand the site to a marketing team.

Design and editing

With Squarespace, you start from a template and adjust it. The section-based editor makes it easy to add galleries, text and forms, and the results look polished with very little effort. The catch is that you stay within the template’s system, so very specific designs can be hard to achieve.

Webflow has no such limits. Pages are designed from scratch, with full control over layout, typography and responsive behaviour. Once built, editors update text, images and CMS content without touching the design.

Content and CMS

Squarespace handles blogs, portfolios and simple collections well. If your content needs are a blog and a few service pages, it is plenty.

Webflow’s CMS is far more flexible. The Premium plan includes 20,000 items across 40 collections, which can reference each other: authors linked to posts, case studies linked to services, resources tagged by topic. For content marketing at any scale, that flexibility matters.

Selling and business tools

Squarespace is the stronger all-in-one business platform. From the Core plan there is no fee on product sales, and it supports physical products, digital downloads, services and memberships. Scheduling and email campaigns are available as add-ons, so a small business can run most of its operation from one place.

Webflow offers native e-commerce on separate plans, but most companies use it as a marketing website and connect specialist tools for bookings, email and payments.

SEO and speed

Both platforms cover the SEO basics: editable titles and descriptions, clean URLs, sitemaps, 301 redirects and mobile-friendly pages. Webflow gives more control over details such as schema and URL structure, which matters more as a site grows. Both host on fast global networks, so speed is solid on either if images are handled sensibly.

Pricing in practice

Billed yearly, Squarespace Core is $29 a month and Webflow Premium is $25 a month. Squarespace includes selling tools at that price; Webflow’s e-commerce is a separate plan. Squarespace has no free plan, only a 14-day trial, while Webflow lets you build on a free Starter plan before you pay.

The larger cost is usually the build rather than the plan. Our website redesign cost guide explains typical budgets.

Moving from Squarespace to Webflow

Businesses often move to Webflow when they outgrow their template or need a stronger CMS for content marketing. Pages are rebuilt in Webflow, blog content is exported and imported into the CMS, and every old URL is redirected so rankings and backlinks carry over.

Our website migration service handles the move end to end, and the SEO website migration checklist covers what to check before launch.

Our take

For a small business, creative portfolio or local shop that wants a beautiful site without a big budget, Squarespace is hard to beat. For companies where the website drives growth, with regular content, campaigns and a team editing it, Webflow gives you a custom design and room to grow.

FAQ

Webflow vs Squarespace
questions

Anything else? Email us at rajan@thevectorbox.com.

Is Webflow better than Squarespace?

It depends on who builds the site. Webflow is better for custom, content-heavy business sites built by a designer or agency. Squarespace is better for owners who want to build a polished site themselves, especially if they sell products or take bookings.

Is Squarespace easier than Webflow?

Yes. Squarespace is one of the easiest builders to learn: you pick a template and edit sections. Webflow gives far more control but takes longer to learn, which is why it is usually used by designers and agencies.

Which is better for SEO, Webflow or Squarespace?

Both handle the essentials, including titles, meta descriptions, clean URLs, sitemaps and redirects. Webflow offers more control over details such as schema and URL structure, which helps on larger sites. For a small site, either can rank well if the content is strong.

Is Squarespace cheaper than Webflow?

Not on paper: Squarespace Core is $29 a month and Webflow Premium is $25 a month, billed yearly. But Squarespace includes selling tools at that price, so it can be cheaper overall if you run a small shop.

Can I move from Squarespace to Webflow?

Yes. Squarespace can export blog content, which can be imported into the Webflow CMS, while pages are rebuilt in Webflow. Each old URL is redirected to its new address so your search rankings carry over.
